The Freda and Scherrie Payne Scholarships for Youth & Adult Singers
Welcome and thank you to all of our applicants. The Scholarship Submission period is open. During the transition of switching from four month quarterly to six month scholarships, the first term will extend to accommodate the last quarterly scholarship recipients. Please submit all paperwork required and audition video for the application process at one time before the due date. If all the submission materials are not submitted before the due date, you will not be considered.

Scholarship for Youth and Adult Singers Information
The Freda and Scherrie Payne Scholarship for Youth & Adult Singers Fundamentals: Giving back… Singers, Freda and Scherrie Payne, whose music career sky rocketed in the 70s, are giving back to the community by sponsoring towards vocal scholarships. Due to high demand, students will be chosen to have a chance to win scholarships every six months that will pay partial tuition for their singing education. Based on students who write the best answers to the essay questions and their improvement vocally, the 1st and 2nd runner(s) up will receive a 50 percent scholarship towards private lessons at La Voix Studio for six months and the top picks will receive a partial scholarship which 75 percent of their private voice lessons would be paid for at La Voix Studio for six months.
Freda Payne
![]() Ms. Freda Payne is a prolific singer and actress. Born in Detroit, Michigan, she began singing at the age of 12 years old. Since the start of her career as a young girl, she has worked with many different singers and producers including Quincy Jones, Pearl Bailey, David Guest and Bill Cosby. She also made occasional guest appearances on different television shows including "Merv Griffin" and "Johnny Carson". "Band of Gold”, was her first hit single which gave her a gold record known all over the world in the early 1970s. Ms. Payne worked as an actress in several movies, Broadway, and other theatre productions. She continued her acting career appearing in movies like Private Obsession (1995), Ragdoll (1999), The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps (2000), and Fire & Ice (made-for-TV, 2001). As if that weren’t enough, Freda continues to perform all over the world. Freda recently made her appearance and gave a star performance on the hit show American Idol. And after the recent tragedy in Haiti, legendary producer, Quincy Jones asked her to participate in the remake of a new “We Are the World for Haiti”.

Scherrie Payne of The Supremes
![]() Ms. Scherrie Payne, younger sister of Freda Payne, is from the home of the Motown sound. Ms. Payne is officially recognized as The Supremes' final lead singer, and is featured on many of the Motown record mega hits. A talented writer and performer, Scherrie was discovered by famed producer Eddie Holland (of Holland/ Dozier/ Holland fame). Before The Supremes, Scherrie was the lead singer of a start up group "Glass House" and is featured on all of their hits on the Invictus label including, "Crumbs off The Table" which she co-wrote. Scherrie has recorded as a solo artist and has had her own hit songs including, "I'm Not In Love" and the famous "One Night Only" which was reintroduced to this generation in the movie “Dream Girls” by R&B recording artist, Beyoncé. Scherrie has worked with many major stars including her sister Freda Payne, George Benson, and Jose Feliciano. In 2000, she joined and toured in concert with Diana Ross, as a member of Diana Ross and the Supremes on their "Return To Love" tour. While touring, they appeared in several News Magazines and Talk Shows including the “Oprah Winfrey Show”. Today she continues to perform with some of the Former Ladies of the Supremes’ around the world.

Our subsidiary company, Maison De Music Foundation, was recently founded in 2019 in efforts to raise more funds in order for us to continue giving scholarships in such high quantities. The non-profit's main purpose is to make lessons more accessible and encourage individuals to pursue music education. With La Voix Studio’s continual growth and Maison De Music Foundation’s recent inauguration, we will join together to carry on and enhance our musical events that contribute to the arts locally.
