Joyce Vincent

Picture
Joyce Vincent Wilson (born December 14, 1946, Detroit, Michigan) is an American singer, most famous for being one-third of the group Tony Orlando and Dawn. Orlando had released the singles "Candida" and "Knock Three Times", recorded with session vocalists Linda November and Toni Wine backing him, under the name Dawn; when the singles charted, Orlando found himself needing to assemble an actual backing group to tour and record with. Wilson and Telma Hopkins became the fully embodied Dawn. The popular 1970s group later had their own successful television program, and Wilson was featured on hit singles like "He Don't Love You (Like I Love You)", "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree" and "Mornin' Beautiful". Wilson continues singing to this day, usually with her sister, Pamela Vincent. Wilson was offered a chance to replace original Supremes member Mary Wilson in the Supremes, with members Scherrie Payne and Susaye Greene, before it was determined by Motown that the group should not continue without any original members. Wilson sang as a backing vocalist on Payne and Greene's duet album, Partners, in 1979, which was originally conceived as a Supremes album. A friend of Payne, Wilson has also provided backing vocals during her solo concerts. In 2006, Wilson and her sister Pamela Vincent provided backing vocals at the twentieth anniversary concert of the Former Ladies of the Supremes. In January 2007, both Wilson and Vincent provided backing vocals for Payne at a concert in Los Angeles, California. In April 2007, Joyce stepped in as a last-minute replacement for Freddi Poole, who was unable to join her group the Former Ladies of the Supremes, on a tour of Japan. In June 2008, Joyce stepped in to replace Lynda Lawrence on a tour of England. In September 2009, Joyce replaced Freddie Poole as a member of the Former Ladies of the Supremes, which is now billed as Scherrie Payne and Lynda Laurence. Joyce and her sister Pam also perform with the "Inspirational Voices of Free" choir. Joyce and Pam are also members of the group Tour de 4Force. This 5-piece group includes both Joyce and Pam, as well as Jim Gilstrap, Theresa Davis and former Supreme Scherrie Payne.

The Balanced Voice Method

Picture
The Balanced Voice Method was develop over a course of years and derived from the celebrity vocal coach who also studied and trained with SLS for numerous of years, as well as with other vocal teachers at a higher level that had been associated with the SLS organization.

A good speaking voice as well as singer's voice should be able to be controlled by three things, air pressure, cord closure and vowels. With a balance of these three things, a student is able to achieve the balanced voice technique. We accomplish this by demonstrating and having students practice vocal exercises to control and balance their air pressure, cord closure and vowels. We also teach students audition and performance preparation. With the balanced voice method students will retain the skills which will allow them to sing or adapt to any style or genre of music they want - Broadway, Classical, Opera, Musical Theatre, Jazz, Blues, R&B, Soul, Bluegrass, Folk, Indie, Alternative, Rock, Pop, Country, Rap, Gospel music, etc...

By studying and training with our vocal instructors, students will have the opportunity to learn to strengthen and control their voices, reach expanded ranges without vocal strain, which is just the beginning of how the technique works for so many and could help you develop your own sound.

We work with actors, speakers, beginning, intermediate, advanced and professional singers, etc... For more information about how the balanced voice method works, please contact us to speak to a vocal coach to obtain more details. We provide music classes to our students so they can develop their craft such as sight reading classes for singers and musicians to learn how to read music.

*At our studio office, on site, we offer Private Voice Lessons with a Vocal Instructor as well as providing the option of having Virtual Lessons Online. This enables us and our students to be able to have our studio teach anyone in the world through the internet. For more information about the different types of classes that are available, go to our studio classes.
