THROUGH THE DECADES

In past years, our Spring Shows have celebrated unforgettable eras of music—from the soulful sounds of the Motown Era, the nostalgic beats of the 90s, and the energetic hits of the 1970s & 1980s, to the timeless classics of our “Soul” themed showcase and the beloved 50s & 60s Spring Themed Show. Before that, our All About That Jazz concert featured a dazzling mix of jazz standards from the 1920s–1940s, jazz-inspired musical theatre favorites, and contemporary songs reimagined with a jazzy twist.

Last year, we took audiences on two remarkable journeys:
• The Quincy Jones Era, where our talented students—backed by a live professional band—brought to life an extraordinary mix of soul, R&B, pop, rock, country, and blues with fresh, sophisticated arrangements.
• The Disco Era, a glittering, high-energy celebration filled with iconic hits, soaring vocals, funky basslines, and nonstop dance-floor excitement.

✨ This year, we proudly present a brand-new theme: “Legendary Groups Through the Decades”! ✨From harmony-driven vocal groups to groundbreaking bands that shaped entire generations, this showcase will honor the timeless music of legendary ensembles whose impact spans genres and eras. Our performers, supported once again by a live professional band, will bring these iconic songs to life with powerful vocals, dynamic arrangements, and the unmistakable spirit of the groups that defined the soundtrack of each decade.

Students - Things to know for the Themed Show

Song Choice

Theme Songs give a different musical technical background ability to musicians and singers, which most often otherwise, never get an opportunity to experience. This Theme show requires a selection in theme, musical theatre piece that is from that genre inspired or a current song contemporary song but only if it is of the theme style rendition.

The Final Song choice must be approved and have available sheet music to accompany. ***Sheet music due

Practice, Practice, Practice!

Soul Music from any era, the technique is a very difficult and complicated musical style to learn because of all the flats and sharps that are incorporated in a song. Preparatory Lessons to be able to have time to develop the skills to sing theme style standards are imperative for a good performance. The time is now to practice, practice, practice with your musical coach to hone those skills.

Students that are unable to dedicate the time to study with their coach, consistently work on their craft for the show or miss a mandatory rehearsal, may not have the opportunity to sign up and perform for the Spring Show.

The sign sheet, for pre-intermediate students and up only, is on the bulletin board in the studio. Call to Schedule Lessons Today to begin selecting a song and working on material.

Performing with Live Band on Stage

Performing with a Live Band for a show is a completely different Ball Game then performing with instrumental tracks. In preparing for this Spring Themed Show, Students will be able to learn band cues and work with a Musical Director to coordinate their pieces.

The sign up sheet for this show will be for pre-intermediate students, and up only, for they have measured at a consistent level, passed the nerves of performing and their ear has been trained to a relative or perfect pitch, which are crucial parts for a band to follow a singer. These selected students are at the level to be able experience the next step of performing and learning how to work with a band.

Band Rehearsal

There will be a Rehearsal with the Band the week of the show in a rehearsal space. Students must be at the band rehearsal(s) or they will not be able to participate in the show because once again, performing with a live band is a different feeling then performing with instrumental tracks.
